I have attached another copy for you so you can look afresh at what\u2019s on offer. Remember the colour coding which signifies the target audience<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ff0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Red <\/mark><\/strong>is continuing Beginners course sessions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#008000\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Green<\/mark><\/strong> event on an external site<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Black<\/strong> is for ALL branch members<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CALLING IMPROVERS<\/strong><br><strong>We have two sessions<\/strong> coming up this month specifically designed to provide support for Improvers who have been keeping bees for a few years or more. <br><br><strong>The first will be on Saturday 16th May<\/strong> at the Beeshed from 2.30pm. Several of the more experienced members of EDBK will be there to answer your questions which could be theoretical or practical. We are not planning any powerpoint presentations, the afternoon will be spent discussing and\/or demonstrating techniques at the hives in small groups or even one to one depending on numbers. <strong>To help us organise the session itis essential please that you let Nick Silver know (<a href=\"mailto:silvernicholas@hotmail.com\">silvernicholas@hotmail.com<\/a>) if you are planning to attend.<\/strong> Please also let him know any specific questions you might have or things that you would like to see demonstrated. For example you might like to inspect a hive together with an experienced beekeeper or you might like to try a particular technique or manipulation together with some help. So please do let him know if you are planning to attend and if there is anything you would like help with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The second session will be at the same time on Saturday 30th May.<\/strong> The theme for this will be &#8220;Making Increase&#8221;. This is the time of year when you can easily build up your colony numbers in order to recover from those winter losses. There will be some theory but again the emphasis will be on practical demonstration. More details to come!<br><strong>BRING YOUR BEESUITS FOR BOTH SESSIONS.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sugar Scheme<\/strong><br>It may be the case that if you request sugar the frequency of collection could be reduced from now on. A change in production techniques with packaging has meant that our Tesco reject sugar is not available in the quantities we have been used to. Please still place your order with Rhiannon (<strong><a href=\"mailto:rhiannonhodson1@gmail.com\">rhiannonhodson1@gmail.com<\/a><\/strong>) but expect less quantity over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HONITON SHOW Thursday 7th August<\/strong><br><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#ffff00\" class=\"has-inline-color has-dark-gray-color\">Thank you to the 25 members who have signed up for stewarding. Download current or previous issues.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"winter-varroa-treatment-oxybee-solution\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Winter Varroa treatment &#8211; Oxybee solution<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Treatment around Christmas \/ beginning of January aims to catch the Varroa when there is no brood for Varroa to hide in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"treatment\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treatment:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The solution should not be too cold, nearer blood heat would be good. \u00a0The day can be cold with the bees well clustered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ideally draw up 50ml solution in a syringe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a lit smoker handy (but should not be needed if crown board removed very carefully).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Between the brood frames are &#8216;seams&#8217; of bees. Use 5ml for each seam of bees. Only treat the bees, do not put the solution down empty seams\/gaps. \u00a0So if there are only 4 seams of bees only use 20 ml.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice with water beforehand so that you know how to deliver 5 ml along each seam.\u00a0 We find that 5 ml is a continuous series of little drops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have a super on top of the brood box and you know the cluster is below it, you can remove the super gently to treat the bees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a Productive New Beekeeping Year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"notes-from-the-oxybee-instructions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notes from the Oxybee Instructions:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Oxybee is an acidic substance.
